Hanako Takamiya was born in Tokyo and at 14 went to Australia as an exchange student. This prompted an interest in Japanese culture. Hanako has been learning Japanese calligraphy since she was 6 and now manages a calligraphy school, publishes books and conducts seminars.
What do you think Japanese companies and/or government needs to do to help women in Japan?
My hope is for more childcare and education support from Government. For example, subsidies from government to cover the cost of additional classes for kids, would be great support for parents.
What advice do you have for the next generation of women in Japan?
In 2020, over 50% of the female population will be over 50 years old - it isn’t all about the youth in Japan. This presents us with more challenges. Take up every chance to study and work overseas. Do your best when you try and take up any challenges.
