Kumi opened Tsukioka Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine 6.5 years ago. She was working at a US firm but decided to focus on oriental medicine. Kumi went to night school, got her acupuncture license, then Berkeley, California for 2 years and obtained a master’s of oriental medicine.
What do you think Japanese companies and/or government needs to do to help women in Japan?
It’s not only about giving women more opportunities, promotion, pay increases and better workplace for parents, the young generation need to be told about the importance and excitement of work, that financial independence leads to freedom and self-confidence.
What advice do you have for the next generation of women in Japan?
Think outside the box, if you have got an idea, act on it! It is ok to fail many times, you can always try again! Don’t be afraid what other people think of you, support other women, enjoy your journey!
月岡久実は鍼灸、あん摩マッサージ指圧師です。以前は外資系の会社でマーケティングをしていました。そんな中、鍼灸に出会い、仕事をしながら夜間学校に3年間通い資格を取得した後、上海の中医薬大學で数ヶ月、米国バークレーの東洋医学の大学院で2年学び、帰国後、6年半前に赤坂で月岡鍼灸院開業。
日本の政府や企業に期待する、女性が活躍なるための支援はどのようなものがあるでしょうか?
女性の昇給、昇格の促進、育児環境を整えるのはもちろんが、仕事をする事の楽しさや重要性、経済的自立が自信や自由の獲得に繋がるのだという事を若い頃から学ぶ機会をもち、意識を改革していく必要があると思う。広告等で目にする、社会が求める女性への固定観念を変化させる必要性を感じる。
次世代の若い女性たちへ何かアドバイスはありますか?
枠にとらわれず、考え過ぎずに行動してみて下さい。失敗したら、またやり直せば良い。間違いを恐れず、人の目を気にし過ぎずに、他の女性と助け合って、目標を目指す過程も楽しんで!今を精一杯楽しく生きましょう!
