Today we celebrate Elizabeth Oliver, founder of not- for-profit group, Animal Refuge Kansai (ARK). Majoring in agriculture at the University of Nottingham, Elizabeth first came to Japan in 1965 then returned to the UK to study Japanese.
Elizabeth returned to Japan and taught English at Osaka Institute of Technology. She established ARK in 1990. At the time of the Great Hanshin Earthquake, in 1995, Elizabeth looked after over 600 animals. In 2015 ARK celebrated its 25th anniversary.
本日はNPO法人アニマルレフュージ関西 の代表、エリザベス・オリバーさんを紹介します。彼女は英ノッティンガム大学で農業を専攻し卒業後、1965年に初来日。その後英国に戻りロンドン大学にて日本語を専攻した。
3年後に再来日し、大阪工業大学の常勤英語教師に就く。その傍ら動物保護活動を行い、1990年に動物保護団体アークを設立。阪神淡路大震災では被災した動物600匹余を保護した。教職を退職しアークの運営に専念。2015年にはアーク設立25周年、東京アークは設立10周年を迎えた。
